Right to Choose - Certificate of Part Quality
Your freedom to choose quality and peace of mind
At GS Yuasa, we believe every driver should have the freedom to decide where their vehicle is serviced, maintained, or repaired — without compromising on quality or risking their manufacturer’s warranty.
Our batteries are fully compliant with the European Union regulations safeguarding your Right to Choose, and meet all legal requirements for “matching quality” parts as defined under EU competition and consumer protection law.
Updated Certification and Regulations
Following the withdrawal of EU Regulation 330/2010, two new frameworks now govern vehicle servicing and parts supply:
European Union – Vertical Block Exemption Regulation (VBER 2022/720)
The Commission Regulation (EU) 2022/720, together with the Guidelines on Vertical Restraints (2022/C 248/01), ensures that consumers throughout the EU continue to enjoy the right to choose where their vehicle is serviced and which parts are used — whether by authorised dealers or independent workshops.
This regulation guarantees that the use of parts of matching quality does not affect the validity of the vehicle manufacturer’s warranty.
What “Matching Quality” Means
“Matching quality” parts are components that meet or exceed the specifications of the parts originally fitted to your vehicle.
This ensures:
-
No impact on your vehicle’s performance, safety, or reliability.
-
No compromise to your vehicle manufacturer’s warranty.
-
Confidence in every installation, whether at a dealership or an independent garage.
-
GS Yuasa Lead-Acid Automotive SLI batteries are certified as parts of matching quality under EU Regulation (EU) 2022/720, and are manufactured to the same technical standards and specifications used by leading global vehicle manufacturers.

Certificate of Parts Quality
EU Regulation: Confirmation Request — EU 330/2010, Points 19 & 20
In accordance with paragraphs 19 and 20 of the Supplementary Guidelines to EU Regulation No. 330/2010 on vertical restraints in agreements for the sale and repair of motor vehicles and the distribution of spare parts for motor vehicles, dated 28 May 2010, which replaced EU Regulation No. 1400/2002 of 31 July 2002:
The lead-acid automotive batteries (SLI) supplied by GS Yuasa Battery Sales UK Ltd. comply with the requirements for replacement vehicle parts with regard to “matching quality”, particularly for use in maintenance and repair work carried out by authorised workshops.
Where specified, the quality of our original parts corresponds to the quality of the components used in the design of the vehicle, as defined by the respective vehicle manufacturer.
Our “matching quality parts”, where indicated, are manufactured in accordance with the specifications and product standards of the manufacturer.
This certificate supersedes the previous version referring to EU Regulation 1400/2002.
Free Choice of Workshop (BER) Explained
As a vehicle owner in the European Union, you have the right to choose where your vehicle is serviced, maintained, and repaired. This right is protected by the Block Exemption Regulation (BER) EU 330/2010, which ensures that consumers can select either independent workshops or authorised dealers without invalidating their vehicle warranty — provided that the parts used are of equivalent quality to the original components.
Key Provisions of EU Regulation 330/2010
- Free Choice of Workshop:
Paragraphs 19 and 20 of the Supplementary Guidelines to Regulation (EU) No. 330/2010 emphasise that vehicle owners are not obliged to visit the vehicle manufacturer’s authorised dealer to maintain their warranty, as long as the servicing or repair work is carried out by a competent workshop using parts of equivalent quality. - Equivalent Quality Parts:
The regulation defines “parts of matching quality” as those that meet the specifications and standards of the vehicle manufacturer. This ensures that independent workshops can use parts from reputable suppliers such as GS Yuasa, which are of the same quality as the original parts. GS Yuasa is an Original Equipment (OE) manufacturer. - Consumer Protection:
The regulation protects consumers from restrictive practices by vehicle manufacturers that could limit their freedom to choose where to have their vehicles serviced or repaired.
GS Yuasa’s Commitment to Regulatory Compliance
At GS Yuasa, we ensure that our automotive batteries meet the highest quality standards. Our products fully comply with the “Matching Quality” requirements established under the BER. This means our batteries are designed and manufactured to meet or exceed the specifications of original vehicle components, ensuring they are suitable for use in authorised workshops for vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Quality Assurance:
Our batteries are manufactured with the same precision and care as the original components used in vehicle production. GS Yuasa is even an Original Equipment supplier to many of the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers. When you choose a GS, Yuasa, or GS Yuasa battery, you can be confident that you are selecting a product that fully complies with EU regulations and helps maintain your vehicle’s warranty. - Certified Compliance:
We provide certification confirming that our batteries meet the required “Matching Quality” standards, replacing any previous certification referring to the former EU Regulation No. 1400/2002.
Free Choice of Workshop (BER)
Remember: as a vehicle owner, you have the right to choose the workshop and parts used for your vehicle’s maintenance and repair. By choosing a GS Yuasa battery, you ensure that your vehicle is equipped with components that meet the strict standards of the BER — preserving both your warranty and your vehicle’s performance.
